Between the Architecture of the Body and the Architecture of the City

Created specifically for the Hugo Boss flagship store on Passeig de Gràcia, this work emerges from the meeting of two ways of constructing: architecture and tailoring. Both disciplines share a common pursuit of proportion, precision and balance, transforming a flat surface into a structure capable of generating volume, identity and emotion.

The work originates in the pattern of a tailored garment. Before becoming a suit, it exists as a composition of lines and two-dimensional fragments that anticipate a body not yet formed. In much the same way, bas-relief occupies an intermediate territory, where a surface begins to evolve into space without ever fully detaching from the plane. It is precisely this tension between two dimensions that defines the sculptural language of the piece. 

As throughout my artistic practice, nature provides the starting point. Botanical forms, their rhythms of growth and their internal structures inspire a composition in which steel unfolds with an organic sense of movement. This vision also resonates with the Catalan Modernisme that defines Passeig de Gràcia, where leaves, branches, flowers and natural geometries became not merely decorative motifs, but fundamental structural principles shaping architecture itself.

This dialogue is translated into steel through folded planes, subtle reliefs and textured surfaces that evoke both the precision of tailoring and the material richness of Catalan Modernisme. Rather than reproducing its forms, the work reinterprets its understanding of matter as a living surface, one that continuously transforms through light, shadow and changing perspectives.

Every gesture remains embedded in the metal as a trace of the creative process. The surface ceases to be merely a finish and becomes a place where construction and intuition, discipline and expression coexist.

More than a sculpture, the work reflects on the act of construction itself. Just as a building begins with a drawing and a tailored garment takes shape from a pattern, this piece explores the moment when matter first begins to acquire presence. It is a dialogue between art, architecture, nature and design—one that finds a particularly meaningful setting in both Barcelona and Hugo Boss.
